The Way to Wellness

Achieving well-being through a balance of healthy habits with ourselves & others. Group topics will include exploration of emotions, coping techniques, social skills, health & wellness, & more!

What to Expect

  • We will have a skills-themed icebreaker to connect with group members & practice learned material.
  • We will have an art project to help gain insights about experiences & de-stress through art.

Art projects will be different each week—including painting, drawing, building, sculpting, etc.

Examples:

  • Using mixed media (paint, markers, oil pastels) to abstractly represent emotions & experiences for increased reflection.
  • Creating a coping skills toolbox to store materials for use when an individual needs to destress / self-sooth.
  • Decorating paper masks to explore how clients view & present themselves in the world.

Group 1 (10-13 year olds): Art with Open Minds: Project Balance

Topics/Focus: Achieving well-being through holistic wellness—developing healthy relationships with ourselves & others. Each group will have a theme relating to exploration of one of six areas on a wheel of wellness: Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Social, and Occupational wellness.

While participating in these groups clients can expect to:

  • Build connections with peers within their age group & location.
  • Learn about themselves.
  • Explore strengths to build confidence.
  • Identify areas where growth is needed.
  • Make a personalized plan of action to build a lifestyle that keeps them happy and healthy.
  • Create and take home works of art that showcase who they are & what they learn.

Group 2 (14-19 years old): Art with Open Minds: Teenage Life 101

Topics/Focus: All things teen—In this group we will be working to explore & navigate the ever-changing & challenging lives of teenagers.

Group topics will include:

  • Identity exploration.
  • Confidence building.
  • Coping with uncomfortable emotions & situations.
  • Navigating social situations with social skills.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Looking forward—building a life that keeps you happy & healthy.

While participating in these groups clients can expect to:

  • Build connections with peers within their age group & location.
  • Reflect on who they are.
  • Explore strengths to build confidence.
  • Identify areas where growth is needed.
  • Make a plan of action to build a lifestyle that keeps them happy and healthy.
  • Make and take home works of art that showcase who they are & what they learn.
  • Discussion/jeopardy game and prizes to help clients apply learned material in an interactive & rewarding way.

Example Project: Aromatherapy Bracelet

Aromatherapy bracelet

This is an example of an aromatherapy bracelet.

Clients will be able to make a bracelet that allows them to inhale the essential oil scent of their choosing whenever & wherever they wear it. Inhaling a comforting scent can help clients practice breathwork, alleviate stress, and improve mood and sleep.
