I am a Master’s Level Student Intern pursuing a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at Touro University Worldwide. Anticipating graduation in December 2024, my background includes yoga teaching and a previous career in human resources. While these experiences fuel my passion for the work I do, it’s crucial to clarify that my counseling approach is rooted in evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy. My clinical guidance comes from supervision and academic training, ensuring a comprehensive and effective therapeutic approach that prioritizes the individualized needs of each client.
Having devoted eight years to Human Resources administration, I gained valuable insights into the interplay between work pressures, family dynamics, outside support and mental health. Motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic, a pivotal moment in work culture restructuring, I was motivated to shift career paths towards mental health advocacy. This decision was fueled by a desire to ensure the well-being of employees and their families with a recognition of the impact of internal and external stressors on mental health and relationships.
Drawing from the principles of Family Systems Therapy, I recognize the significance of relational dynamics and how family interactions influence one’s thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors. I want to help clients explore and understand these connections, fostering self reflection and growth not just at an individual level but within the broader context of family systems. This approach is relevant in understanding our relationships and behaviors both within and outside of the family system.
In my counseling practice, I prioritize accessible mental health support for everyone, promoting well-being across all life stages. Drawing from my passion for a healthy lifestyle as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), I see parallels between clinically sound therapeutic approaches and yoga principles as a means of supporting mental health, emphasizing healthy communication, and coping skills.
